Russell Martin couldn’t fault his MK Dons side after their dominant display against Peterborough United.

The Dons drew 1-1 with Posh on Tuesday night but arguably deserved more, having enjoyed total control over the team currently positioned third in the Sky Bet League One table.

While frustrated not to have seen their supremacy rewarded with maximum points, Martin was still full of praise for his side’s display.

“It was an outstanding performance,” the manager said in his post-match press conference. “I'm frustrated and disappointed for the players because we deserved to win, but to dominate a team at the top end of the league, with the quality they have, is really pleasing.

“We responded brilliantly to Saturday. I'm pleased with the character, the energy and intensity we played at. To a man, there wasn't a bad performance.

“They had one shot and they scored, but their goal was a foul – their player has admitted that to our players. Our players are very frustrated by that.

“It would have been easy for us to lose our cool, and have a victim mentality after that decision, but we stayed really focussed and put all our energy into what we were doing on the pitch.

“We were well on-top after that. The whole second half was played in their half and when we play like that, though, we're a match for anyone in the league.

“It’s why I'm disappointed because we completely dominated and we've only got a point, when it should be all three.

“It’s just that last little bit of composure and quality when you really need it. We were so desperate to go and score, so we need to work on that. But I'm really pleased.”

Martin added: “We are drawing too many games and we have to start turning them into wins. The season would have a different feel if we turned some of those draws into wins.

“That's the next step. For now, we're getting harder to beat and we have to try and stay consistent in that.

“We all want to be higher, and we all feel we should be higher but, regardless, I don't think we'll finish anywhere near where we were at the start of the night. With more performances like that, we will start to climb the table.”
