Martin's frustration after Plymouth defeat

Russell Martin revealed his frustration after falling to defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

Neither side really got going in Saturday’s clash at Home Park, but the hosts were able to find a solitary goal with 21 minutes to play – enough to snatch all three points and condemn Martin’s side to only their third defeat in 11 matches.

“It was a poor game from both sides to be honest,” the manager said in his post-match press conference.

“After a fantastic performance on Tuesday, it's frustrating to perform this way. Plymouth is a tough place to come, but they were wounded and we didn't take advantage.

“It was never going to be a game that was free-flowing, with a lot riding on it for them when they haven't won or so long. The conditions were tough and we were tired after three games in a week.

“It wasn't a classic, but in games like this, the least we should do is walk away with a 0-0, and then we're walking away talking about a tough, resolute performance away from home.”

Martin continued: “We weren't great in the first half, in difficult conditions, but we were resilient and limited them to very little, defending the box well.

“The game changed in the second half and we hemmed them in and that's how we should have continued, but we lost our way.

“On too many occasions though, we let them have one shot on target and we concede from it. It's ridiculous that this keeps happening and that, once again, we walk away angry and frustrated. The goal we conceded was poor too - there's little I can do to defend it.

“Overall, it's a frustrating day for us.”
