Harvie happy with Stadium MK start

2 December 2020

Having arrived from Scottish outfit Ayr United in the Summer, Daniel Harvie says he’s enjoyed the start to his career at MK Dons.

The 22-year-old impressed with the Scottish Championship side and has continued his form into this campaign for Russell Martin’s side.

Adapting to a new league and style of play can sometimes take time, however, Harvie’s transition has been seamless – even with a couple of international breaks to deal with.

“The boys are all good here, the staff are great – I’ve settled in really well.” The Scot told the media ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Charlton Athletic. “I’m excited for the future ahead with MK Dons.

“It’s tough playing here and then going away on international duty. It’s two different styles, but you need to adapt if you want to play at the top level – it’s been a great experienced for me.

“The Under-21s has finished now – so I’m fully focused on MK Dons.”

Harvie’s position in Martin’s system has seen him make an impact at both ends of the field. The defender has popped up countless times in the box as he looks to either score or assists. At the other end of the pitch, Harvie has had to recover back into the defensive third in order to prevent shots on goal.

“It’s been different for me but I love it. I’m higher up the pitch and I have more chance of scoring goals- we keep the ball a lot and I really enjoy that side of the game.

“When you’ve got two strikers we need to help them and we need to chip in a lot more than what we have. That takes time and we will get there, we practice our final third play a lot and it’s going to click.”

The Scottish Under-21 international has yet to play in front of the MK Dons fans, and with the news from the Government allowing up to 2,000 fans at Stadium MK, Harvie is excited at the prospect of playing with supporters inside Stadium MK.

“It’ll be brilliant to get fans back I’m really looking forward to playing here with fans and a lot of the boys are as well.

“Especially for the fans too, they’ve been without football for so long it’s nice to get them back. I think it’ll give me that extra gear that we need when chasing a game, but it’s just good to have them back and I can’t wait for them to return.”
