Dazzling Scott dedicates win to his boss

Scott Fraser's fifth goal of the season saw MK Dons beat Charlton Athletic at The Valley, after an emotional five days for Russe

Scott Fraser dedicated Wednesday’s win at Charlton Athletic to manager Russell Martin, after a difficult week for the MK Dons boss.

Martin’s father passed away suddenly last Friday but was on the sidelines at The Valley to lead the Dons to a dominant 1-0 win over the Addicks.

It was Fraser’s goal which secured all three points in South West London, and afterwards the Scot was eager to pay tribute to his manager.

“I feel I can speak for all the boys when I say that was for him,” Fraser said in his post-match interview.

“The gaffer has had a tough week. He had the bad news at the weekend and it would have been easy for him to stay off, but he was at the game at the weekend, and was with us through the week to this game.

“We knew we had to go and get him the win, playing the way he wants us to, so it’s pleasing we were able to put in a performance like that - he has to take all the credit for it.”

Fraser’s winning goal was just rewards for a dominant display at The Valley, with the Dons at their fluent best from start to finish. Fraser had nothing but positives to take from the evening’s work.

“It was more than a 1-0 performance and it was sign of what we can be,” he commented.

“At the start of the season, these were the games where we were losing, despite battering the other team, and that shows how far we've come to win that.

“We've, again, had more shots, more possession, and we were in the opposition box more often than them.”

Fraser continued: “People have told me it was a surprise that I signed here, but I signed here because I trust the manager massively. I trust my team-mates and how we want to play and I trust that we're good at doing it.

“We believe in what we do and we work hard on it. It was nice to see it pay off tonight.”

The victory saw MK Dons make it back-to-back away league victories for the first time since February 2019, and lifts them to within three points of the top half heading into a difficult trip to Accrington Stanley this weekend.

“It’s now about finding consistency week in, week out, no matter where we go or who we play.”
