Joe Mason fully understands why his return to MK Dons was delayed, with striker just glad the Club is in a strong position off the pitch.
The Football Club confirmed back in June that, while they worked out how to navigate through the Coronavirus outbreak, Mason was not to be offered a new contract following the expiration of the deal he signed ahead of the 2019/20 season.
However, the 29-year-old stayed in contact with the Dons and once the situation became clearer, was able to finalise a deal to return to Stadium MK.
“It’s important the club got in a safe position first,” Mason said in his interview with iFollow MK Dons earlier this week.
“I spoke to Russ a lot over the lockdown and he made it clear to me that he wanted me to stay. I’m just over the moon to be back and it’s great to be back with the lads training.
“Until the season got cut short, I was really enjoying my football here. This year it’s about staying injury free, showing what I’m all about and trying to help the team as much as possible.
“I’ve done a lot of work during lockdown and I’m feeling fit. There is still nothing you can do in the off-season that truly prepares you for playing games, so I can’t wait for them as they’ll be coming quickly.”
