Lee confident Dons will improve

Goalkeeper believes the side can continue to make progress under Russell Martin...

Lee Nicholls is confident MK Dons can improve on last season, but insists the side must maintain a short-term focus.

The Dons clawed themselves out of a perilous position in the Sky Bet League One table last term, finishing the campaign in 19th place due to improvements made under new boss Russell Martin, following his appointment in November.

Nicholls is optimistic the team can continue to make strides under Martin in 2020/21 and believes that will only translate in better results and, of course, a better league position.

“We showed towards the end of last season what we can do and we need to bring that into this season,” the MK Dons number 1 told the press, following the side’s return to training.

“We underachieved last season because we’ve got quality in the squad, but you saw when Russ, we were getting better and better with every game.

“If we apply ourselves correctly during pre-season and work hard, then I think we should be looking to push up the table.”

Nicholls, though, isn’t getting carried away: “This isn’t going to be an overnight job. I think we need to take it game by game, with the first match being our most important. We want three points in that first and foremost.”
