Healey hoping to take advantage of full pre-season

Rhys Healey hopes to take advantage of a full pre-season with MK Dons, as he looks to build on an impressive 2019/20 campaign at Stadium MK.

Healey completed his switch to the Dons late in the 2019 offseason, with left him little time to prepare for the season.

Despite the less than ideal start, the 25-year-old still managed to tally 12 goals last term but he is hoping that a full pre-season under Russell Martin will stand him in even better stead heading into the 2020/21 campaign.

“Last year was frustrating for me because I didn’t have a proper pre-season with the lads,” Healey said in his press conference with the local media, following the side’s return to training.

“This year I’m going to push myself and I’m ready to work hard. I kept myself ticking over [during lockdown] and I’ve stuck to my programme to make sure I’m in a good shape, but it’s good to be around the group again.

“You only cheat yourself if you don’t put the work in. Every pre-season is tough because you want to be fitter and stronger but we all want to push to be our best.”

He continued: “Every season is a big one, because you always want to build on what you’ve done the previous season and push yourself to be better than you performed.”
