Alex Gilbey has completed his move to Charlton Athletic for an undisclosed transfer fee.
The deal comes ten months before the midfielder’s contract at Stadium MK was due to expire, and just less than three years after the 25-year-old joined the Football Club from Wigan Athletic.
Russell Martin told mkdons.com: “It is disappointing to lose Alex but this was an opportunity he wanted to take up, and we have to respect that.
“Despite the pressures that all football clubs are under in this difficult economic climate, this wasn’t a decision that we had to make for financial reasons – we are in a strong position in that regard.
“Ultimately, this was a move that was right for both parties, given Alex’s desire to join Charlton and the offer that we received for his services.
“We are grateful to Alex for his outstanding contribution during his time at the Football Club, and we wish him all the best moving forwards.”
Gilbey joined MK Dons for an undisclosed fee in August 2017 and made a total of 105 appearances, scoring 11 times.
