Davies turns pro

17 August 2020

Highly rated Academy Graduate Jack Davies has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with MK Dons.

The Milton Keynes born defender, who joined the Club at the age of 10, becomes the first Under-18 to sign a professional deal under Russell Martin.

Davies, predominantly a left-sided defender, has shown great athleticism at composure on the ball throughout his scholarship at Stadium MK.

The 17-year-old was involved in Pre-Season last year, but suffered an injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign. Having worked hard to get back to full fitness, the defender has worked his way into Martin’s plans for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

Speaking to iFollow MK Dons, Davies said: “I’m buzzing to sign my first deal – it’s something I’ve been working for all my life. The hard work doesn’t stop here though, I’ve got to keep working and keep showing what I can do.

“You don’t realise as a kid in the Academy what you’re going to face through the years. I’m delighted that the Club has put their faith in me and got behind me.

“Even when Russ was a player, he was the one to put his arm around me and offer me advice. He was picking up on things I was doing wrong – but he was also there for me. He’s a great role model and he’s been the same since he’s become the manager. He was always checking up on me during my injury and he’s now shown the faith in me.

“It’s really pleasing to have a manager that shows that amount of trust and faith in you.”

Manager Russell Martin said, “Since Jack has come in he’s been impressive, he’s done really well. He’s got a really good mentality and is a leader among his peers. He’s a talented footballer and has shown a lot of resilience to come back from a long term injury so early in his career.

“The way he’s come back since lockdown has been impressive. He’s looked strong both physically and mentally. He’s been exactly right and deserves his contract and knows the hard work starts here.”

Jon Goodman, Academy Manager, added: “It’s a very proud moment for everyone connected with the Academy and the Club. he’s been with us from Day One and a lot of people over the years have had a connection with Jack. He’s something we look for in an Academy player and we are excited to see what he can do in the coming years.

“To get a professional contract so early is a big statement from the Club. It demonstrates once again what wonderful opportunity there is for local talent. Jack has followed in the footsteps of some fantastic academy graduates and now he’s got to put his personality on his career and he’s another reference point for anybody that is looking to have a career in football you’re going to well at MK Dons.
