Carlton: Strong connection between the staff and the players

Striker believes MK Dons are buying into Russell Martin's process...

Carlton Morris believes the connection between the management staff and the playing squad are the two ingredients MK Dons need to have a positive season.

Morris returned to Stadium MK this summer after enjoying a successful loan spell with the Dons last term.

The Norwich City loanee saw first-hand the impact his former teammate, Russell Martin, had on the dressing room in 2019/20 and is confident that momentum can carry into the upcoming campaign.

“We’ve got a full squad here that believe in the management staff and once you’ve got that, you’ve got all the right ingredients to be as successful as you want,” Morris said in a recent press conference.

“It’s all a process and the gaffer and Luke work tirelessly in training to make sure we have the right ideas and right understanding. We are all learning and the beautiful thing about it is everyone is buying into their ideas.

“Seeing the lads in training and in games you can tell it is really coming along well. It’s good because you can see the process is working and the team gelling more and more with each week. I’m so excited for the season now.”

Morris and the Dons begin their 2020/21 campaign on Saturday when they welcome Coventry City to Stadium MK for a Carabao Cup Round One tie.

The match will take place behind-closed-doors due to Government restrictions, and Morris knows that will take the edge of what would usually be an exciting afternoon.

“I’d love it more if the fans were with us, but we’ve got the be patient on that one,” he said.

“I think you get so used to having fans that when they aren’t there, it’s a bit of a shock to the system.

“The fans are massive for me, especially at Stadium MK, and I’m dreading the feeling of playing competitive games without them there.

“They bring such a massive boost. They made all the difference towards the back end of last year and it’ll be a big boost when they are back and allowed in for games.”
