Jay Bird spent the majority of his first year as a professional on the sidelines due to a serious injury, but the MK Dons forward is back and looking to make up for lost time this pre-season.
Bird, who turned pro in summer 2019 after progressing through the Club’s Academy, has been rehabbing throughout lockdown in a bid to get back fit for pre-season.
He has featured in each of the last three friendlies this summer, including Saturday’s practice match with Coventry City during which he got on the scoresheet with a terrific curling effort.
“It’s a great feeling to be back,” he told iFollow MK Dons following the encounter with Norwich City on Friday.
“It was my first proper injury – and it wasn’t a short one! It was a huge learning curve for me, and I feel I’ve matured as a person and as a player.
“The lockdown didn’t help either, adding on another few months, but I suppose the extra two months have helped a lot. Hopefully I’ve been able to turn a negative thing into a positive.
“I’ve feel like I’ve played well [this pre-season] and helped the team out. Russ has given me a chance and it’s up to me show him and the rest of the team what I can do. Hopefully I can continue to show that during pre-season and we’ll see how far that gets me.”
