Tis: Let's get back on track

MK Dons travel to Sunderland this weekend looking for their first league win in three games...

Paul Tisdale wants MK Dons to get back on track in Sky Bet League One when they take on Sunderland this weekend.

Tisdale’s Dons put in a spirited performance against Liverpool in midweek but enter this Saturday’s clash at the Stadium of Light without a win to their name in their last two league outings.

“We need a result of some kind because we’ve lost the last two league games,” Tisdale said in his pre-match press conference ahead of MK Dons’ trip to Wearside.

“[Nights like Wednesday] are what football is all about. Doing as well as you can do and getting the biggest occasion you can create so there is no excuses from me that the game against Liverpool got in the way of this game.

“I really enjoy playing against good teams and different challenges. I’m not glad it’s over, but I’m not sad. We enjoyed it, but we also are pretty aware that we lost the last two league games and we need to get ourselves back on track.

“We’re not flushed with great depth at the front end of the pitch due to injuries so the bulk of the team will be the same. They’re professional footballers - they played on a big stage here on Wednesday night and now they are going to Sunderland to play in a great stadium – they’ll be fine.”

One player who will be hoping to retain his place in the side is Alex Gilbey, who made his first start for three games in the Carabao Cup tie with Liverpool.

“Alex isn’t quite cooked yet,” Tisdale commented, when asked about his midfielder’s stop-start beginning to the campaign.

“His start to the season has sadly been interrupted so far. It’s one of them things, that to get him back to his full rhythm, he needs to play.

"He did well against Southend and Liverpool – let’s hope he can keep his place and get that rhythm because once he has it – he’s a very important part to our team.”
