Sam thankful for support

Striker credits the fans for their role in the win over AFC Wimbledon...

11 September 2019

Sam Nombe paid tribute to the MK Dons supporters to keeping the team going in Saturday’s clash with AFC Wimbledon.

The 20-year-old, on his full league debut, opened the scoring early on against AFC Wimbledon with his fourth goal in as many games, before strike partner Rhys Healey doubled the lead midway through the first half.

AFC Wimbledon made things difficult after the break and did reduce the deficit in the final 10 minutes but, with the home support behind them, the Dons did enough to secure the victory. Nombe believes the fans certainly played their part.

“They were superb,” Nombe said when asked about the supporters. “They kept us going, they kept me going. They certainly kept me running in behind.

“It’s fantastic [to hear my name being sung]. It keeps you going and it keeps you motivated to carry on doing well.”

Last Saturday’s win saw the Dons respond to successive league defeats against Peterborough United and Accrington Stanley, while secured them their first back-to-back victories of the campaign.

“We needed them three points to get back on track in the league,” Nombe commented. “We’ve done alright in midweek this season but we need to do better on the Saturdays and that’s what we’ve done today.”
