All you need to know ahead of today's Central League clash...

10 September 2019

MK Dons begin their Central League South campaign this afternoon against Plymouth Argyle.

The Dons won the Central League South title last term after winning nine of their 13 matches and scoring a total of 37 goals. They finished five points ahead of Exeter City, on 28 points.

This season’s division has been reduced to just six teams for 2019/20, with Bristol Rovers, Forest Green Rovers, Peterborough United, Southend United and today’s opponents, Plymouth, the rivals looking to prevent the Dons from retaining their crown.

Kick-off is at 2pm.

THE OPPOSITION
Plymouth Argyle finished fourth in last season’s Central League South table, six points adrift of the Dons.

The Pilgrims had one of the best defences in the competition in 2019/20 and lost just three games - tied for the best record in the division.

In their only meeting with the Dons last term, it was the men from MK1 who came out on top - and in some style. A hat-trick from David Wheeler along with goals from Robbie Simpson and Stephen Walker earned the visitors to Devon a 5-0 victory.

TEAM NEWS
The Dons often used last season’s competition to hand minutes to first-team players who weren’t involved in league action the previous weekend.

If that is to continue, then the likes of Stuart Moore, Brennan Dickenson, Hiram Boateng, Ryan Harley, Kieran Agard and Jordan Bowery could feature. The game should also involve young pros Dylan Asonganyi and Matthew Sorinola but not Jay Bird, who is injured.

Those out on loan can appear in Central League matches but Charlie Pattison has commitments for his loan club this evening.

Expect the rest of the squad to be made up of scholars from the Under-18s squad.
