Conor wants Dons to back-up midweek success

MK Dons will be looking to secure successive wins on Saturday...

Conor McGrandles wants MK Dons to do what they failed to do so far this season – back up a midweek victory by winning at the weekend.

The Dons beat AFC Wimbledon, Lincoln City and Southend United on Tuesday nights last month but went on to suffer defeat in the match the following Saturday.

After beating Stevenage 3-0 in the Leasing.com Trophy this week – a match in which McGrandles grabbed the opening goal - MK Dons’ Scottish midfielder hopes they can follow up by securing three points over AFC Wimbledon.

“We need to back it up,” McGrandles said after Tuesday’s win at the Lamex Stadium.

“We've had a good midweek performances and not backed it up on a Saturday so it's important to bounce back and put on a good show on Saturday.”

While McGrandles netted the opener, it was Sam Nombe who stole the headlines in midweek by netting a second-half brace – a brace which means he now sits top of the Dons’ scorer charts.

McGrandles, whose tied for second in the team with two goals in all competitions, was full of praise for Nombe.

“He played really well,” he told the media. “I was expecting him to put them goals away because of the way he was playing.

“He did really well in pre-season. He's come back fighting fit and is scoring goals. Two good goals will do his confidence a world of good.

“It'll put pressure on the other strikers, who have been doing well too. It's a good front line.”
