Conor: A game of two halves

19 September 2019

Conor McGrandles insists there are plenty of positives to take from MK Dons’ impressive second-half performance against Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

Paul Lambert’s side took a 12th-minute lead through Jon Nolan, but had goalkeeper Tomas Holy to thank for the win after his impressive performance between the sticks.

Paul Tisdale made a double change and switched his formation at the break, and were perhaps unfortunate to not come away from the Sky Bet League One clash with a point.

Despite the defeat, McGrandles says the Dons can be pleased with their second-half showing.

“It was a game of two halves,” the Scot told the media following the defeat at Stadium MK. “Ipswich had a good first-half, they played very well and pressed us well too.

“The manager made some changes at half-time and it changed the game in our favour. We needed more emphasis on attacking, and with the chances we created in the second-half, we should’ve nicked a point.

“The plan is always to win the game and score goals. Ipswich played really well in the first-half - so we needed to change something at half-time. I think it worked - we just couldn’t get the goal.

With such a quick turnaround of games, the Dons have the chance to return to winning ways this weekend against Southend United.

“We need to try put this game behind us now, it’s another home game this weekend, which is really good for us.

“We like playing here, even though they haven’t got the results they’ve wanted, we know Southend are a good team, we can’t take anything lightly. We need to be on our game to get anything from the game."
