Poole: An honour to represent Wales

Defender could make senior debut this week...

Regan Poole says it’s always an honour to represent Wales, ahead of what could be his senior debut for the national team on Thursday.

The MK Dons defender is in Ryan Giggs’ Wales squad for their two Euro 2020 qualifiers against Slovakia and Croatia, the first of which takes place in Trnava on Thursday night, kick-off 7.45pm.

Speaking to Red Dot ahead of the recent Sky Bet League One fixture with Southend United, Poole spoke of his pride at being involved in Wales set-up and his ambitions to feature for the senior team.

“To play for Wales is always an honour,” Poole told Red Dot. “Whatever the age group, you are playing for your country, pulling on the Wales shirt and singing the national anthem.

“I’ve been a part of the Wales Under-21s for a while now and that’s always a proud thing for me.

“Ever since [Ryan Giggs] has come in, he’s pushed young players through from the Under-21s. As we’ve seen recently, most of their starting XI are under the age of 23 and that shows a pathway for us.

“Everyone in the Under-21s wants to play in the senior side and I’m no different. That’s my aim.”
