Gilbey: Time to step-up and be counted

25 October 2019

Midfielder Alex Gilbey has issued a rallying cry to the squad ahead of Saturday’s clash with Fleetwood Town.

The Dons enter the clash 19th in the Sky Bet League One table and are winless in their last seven games.

The 24-year-old says the players need to take responsibility for the recent form and feels everyone needs to up their performances in order to start climbing the table.

“We, as players, have to take responsibility more than the management,” Gilbey told the local media ahead of Saturday’s clash at Highbury. “Looking around, me included, we're obviously not performing well enough because we're losing games. We have to look at ourselves, pull our fingers out and put a performance in.

“We are more than capable of competing at this level, so where we are at the minute is nowhere near good enough. But that's down to us to sort it out, all be on the same page and sort this situation out.

“The points return is horrendous. The fans have got the right we aren’t performing well enough but we are a team, we are a club, this is when we need the fans the most.

“Thanks to everyone who travelled Tuesday and thanks to everyone coming to Fleetwood.”
