12 November 2019

MK Dons fell to defeat in their final Leasing.com Trophy Group Stage game, as Wycombe Wanderers came from behind to win 2-1.

Brennan Dickenson gave MK Dons the lead with his stunning free-kick, before second-half goals from Wycombe Wanderers duo Nnamdi Ofoborh and Josh Parker gave the visitors the Group Stage win.

Russell Martin made eight changes from the side that played Port Vale in the Emirates FA Cup last Saturday with George Williams captaining MK Dons in the absence of Dean Lewington.

Stuart Moore was handed a start in goal, while in front of him sat Callum Brittain, Williams, Baily Cargill and Matthew Sorinola.

David Kasumu retained his place in midfield and started alongside Jordan Houghton and Hiram Boateng, while Dylan Asonganyi sat behind Brennan Dickenson and Kieran Agard.

The first chance fell the way of Brennan Dickenson, who tried to slide past Cameron Yates, only to be denied by the offside flag as he shaped to shoot.

With six minutes on the clock, Cargill produced vital interception to deny Scott Kashet's cross finding a Wycombe man.

A couple of minutes later, Brittain played a ball inside to Asonganyi but his touch was heavy and allowed Yates to sweep up at the feet of the striker.

Jamie Mascoll then had his low cross gathered by Moore.

Dickenson then showed his trickery as the Dons man turned his marker on the half-way line before driving into the box - he found Agard with his cross, but the Dons striker was offside.

Shortly after, Boateng forced Yates into a good save down to his left with his effort from distance.

Sorinola was looking dangerous down the left and forced Yates into another good save, as he claimed the youngsters cross as Agard looked to turn home.

Kashket looked to draw his side level, but was unable to force Yates into a save as his effort ended over the bar.

Dickenson was then fouled just outside the box earning MK Dons a free-kick, one which the forward stood over alongside Agard. It was indeed Dickenson who took on the duties, and emphatically found the back of the net. to put Russell Martin's side ahead. 1-0.

Wycombe looked for an immediate reply through Alex Samuel. The Wycombe man done well to cut inside onto his right foot, only for Kasumu to block his strike.

The second-half started with Wycombe in control, as both Parker and Samuel forced Moore into saves at his near post.

Pattison then found himself with space on the right only for his cross to find the hands of Moore.

The Dons soon found their second-half rhythm with Asonganyi the latest man to test Yates. Martin's side kept the ball well on the edge of the box, before Dickenson played a clever pass into the path of Asonganyi, his shot was well saved.

Wycombe, however, equalised on the hour mark. A cross from the right was cleared by Williams, but only as far as Nnamdi Ofoborh who hit a first-time volley past Moore. 1-1.

The Dons looked to restore their lead through Brittain. Having picked up the ball inside his own half, the defender ran the length of the field before picking out Asonganyi inside the box. His shot was saved before Agard was flagged offside.

Seconds later, Brittain once again was causing trouble to the Wycombe backline, his cross towards Agard was cleared by Phillips.

Asonganyi then picked out Boateng, whose powerful shot was saved by Yates.

Having come on for Wycombe, Paul Smyth was looking to put his side ahead, he'd of done so if it wasn't for Stuart Moore.

Samuel then worked his way into space inside the Dons area before crashing a shot against the bar, Williams was there to head over the bar for a corner.

Wycombe then won a free-kick in a similar position to the one Dickenson scored from in the first half, Mascoll's effort, however, ended behind the goal.

Two minutes before the end of the 90, both Kieran Agard and Giles Phillips were sent off for an altercation off the ball.
