MK Dons Women reached the Third Round of the FA Women’s National League Cup after overcoming AFC Basildon Women on penalties.
Jess Driscoll opened the scoring for MK Dons just eight minutes into the clash, a lead that stood until half-time.
It was AFC Basildon Women who started stronger in the second half, and converted their pressure into two goals as Holly Turner and Grace Gillard gave the hosts the lead with 55-minutes on the clock.
The Dons showed character and determination to get back into the game, as Driscoll equalised on 65-minutes.
Shortly after, Rhianne Rush was on hand to give the Dons the advantage with 15-minutes left to play.
An injury-time header from Basildon forced the tie to extra time, however, no further goals were scored sending the tie to penalties.
Laurie Bright, Zoe Boote and Vicky Neal all scored their spot-kicks, and with Emma Kirby saving twice, and AFC Basildon missing one, MK Dons Women progressed into the next round.
