Mason disappointed with second-half showing

27 November 2019

Joe Mason feels MK Dons have to start putting together a 90-minute performance following Saturday’s defeat against Rotherham United.

The Dons went into the break with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Alex Gilbey and Mason, and were full value for their advantage with some attractive football on display during the first 45-minutes.

However, it was the visitors who ran out winners as a Freddie Lapapo brace and a goal from Dan Barlaser saw Paul Warne’s side come from behind to secure all three points.

“We’ve shown we can do it over 45-minutes, now we have to translate that to 90-minutes,” Mason told the local media following the conclusion of Saturday’s game. “It’ll be tough, but we’ve shown we can do it.

“The second-half was nowhere near good enough, to be honest. We went away from what we were doing in the first-half. That’s something we need to look at and work out what happened because we were miles away from the performance levels in the first half.”

Despite scoring his first goal in an MK Dons shirt in just his second start for the club, Mason insists he’d rather have picked up three points.

“I'm happy to get my first goal, it's a weight off my shoulders and I can concentrate on getting more. To be completely honest it's not what I'm thinking about, I'm just disappointed about the final result.”
