Manager Martin to step away from playing

Boss to concentrate on new role...

6 November 2019

Russell Martin has confirmed he will step away from playing in order to concentrate fully on his managerial role with MK Dons.

Martin was appointed MK Dons manager on Sunday following the departure of Paul Tisdale and it appears the transition from the pitch to the dugout will put an end to an illustrious career which includes over 580 club appearances, 29 international caps and five promotions.

“That’s me done, unfortunately – or fortunately for some people!” Martin confirmed in his first press conference with the media, since taking charge at Stadium MK.

“I’m all in on this. I need to be 100 percent focused on the management and coaching because to do both would be too difficult.

“I’ll look back on my career with pride and real gratitude because I’m really grateful for the career that I’ve had, but I’m comfortable with it. I’m excited for this next challenge.”
