Bidding ends at 5.40pm today.

On the 12th September 2016, Dan Wilkinson died whilst playing the game he loved from an underlying heart condition called Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC).

ARVC is an inherited condition that causes the replacement of cardiac muscle with fibrous, fatty tissue, normally in the right side of the heart. This causes the walls in the heart chamber to become thin and stretched, impacting how the blood is pumped around the body and causing abnormal heart rhythms.

The condition can be found in one in every 2,000 – 5,000 adults (if it is looked for). It mainly affects young adults and has been the reason for some sudden unexplained deaths in young athletes.

The Daniel Wilkinson Foundation has been set up to raise funds and awareness which will ultimately save lives. The money raised for this Foundation will go towards providing screenings for footballers at grass roots level and to assist clubs in purchasing defibrillators and to provide training in CPR.

George Williams said of Dan: “He really was the most incredible person, everyone who encountered him, loved him. His memory will be a force for good and will prevent further tragedies like this from happening."
