Walsh pays credit to shrewd Dons defence

20 May 2019

Joe Walsh has heaped praise upon his MK Dons teammates for their defensive displays throughout the 2018/19 campaign.

Paul Tisdale’s side kept 18 clean sheets across the course of their promotion-winning season, culminating in the most important shutout against Mansfield Town on the final day of the season.

The Dons had to deal with numerous chopping and changing due to injury throughout the season, but stood firm to boast the fourth best defence in the division.

Walsh has praised the whole team for their efforts across the season to achieve such a feat.

“We had a lot of injuries in defence this season, people have had to play in positions they aren’t natural in and have been brilliant when they’ve played there. We’ve kept a lot of clean sheets and we would’ve had more if we had everyone fit – it’s done now – I’m buzzing.

“We’ve had to play so many different formations, but we’ve always been ready for it thanks to work in training – it’s come good in the end – everyone has been brilliant.

“I’ve had so many downs with injuries, not only this season, but during my career. It was all worth it for days like Saturday - I’m really pleased and ready for the break.”

Walsh added, “We stood firm against Mansfield and it was a really good defensive display from everyone – not just the defence – it was the whole team.

“Everyone in this team gets along, we all put in a shift for each other and we all work hard on and off the pitch together. We’re like brothers, it’s been great to be part of this side – long may it continue.”
