Gilbey honoured after fans vote midfielder Player of the Year

14 May 2019

Alex Gilbey has thanked the MK Dons fans for being patient with the Midfielder during his recovery from injury and voting the 24-year-old Player of the Year.

Gilbey made a remarkable recovery from the injury he suffered during the 2017/18 season, so much so, he was able to return for the Club’s opening day victory over Oldham Athletic – three months ahead of schedule.

The midfielder played a key role in the Club’s promotion and was voted Player of the Year by the MK Dons faithful at the annual End of Season Awards.

“I want to say a massive thank you to the fans for sticking with me and voting for me to win this award,” Gilbey told iFollow MK Dons when reflecting on the season. “I’m really happy, it’s a big achievement to have, especially after last season – I’m really proud.

“My season started slow, but I had a few chats with Tis and just let him know that I’ll get better - he stuck with me. I think I hit the ground running after I got a few games under my belt, I really started to enjoy my season. Now I can’t wait to get back for pre-season and kick on.”

Gilbey also reserved special praise for the support they’ve given the Dons this season.

“The fans have been amazing, especially after the rubbish they’ve seen in the last couple of years, for them to come back and support this club and show us what this place means to them is unbelievable – we’re all so thankful for that.”
