Wheeler chuffed to contribute to win

Wheeler pleased to help MK Dons to victory…

11 March 2019

David Wheeler scored his first goal in an MK Dons shirt on Saturday and spoke of his delight having opened his account.

Wheeler drew Paul Tisdale’s side level minutes before the half-time whistle, as he headed home from Conor McGrandles’ corner.

“I’m really chuffed – it’s always nice to score isn’t it,” the forward told the local media after Saturday’s victory.

“To win and keep the momentum is really positive. Macclesfield played really well, they played some really nice football and deserved their goal.

“It was about us not panicking and chasing the game – we had to relax and enjoy playing our football.”

The 28-year-old went close to doubling his tally for the day in the second half, however, a stubborn Kieran O’Hara in between the sticks for Macclesfield denied Wheeler on a number of occasions.

“The keeper played really well, he made some good saves and on another day, we could’ve won by a lot more.

“We had a lot of breakaways too, with a man or two men up and should have done more. We had four or five really good chances on top of the three we scored – it’s encouraging to keep creating.”
