Tis: Enjoy the excitement but control your emotions

29 March 2019

Paul Tisdale wants his MK Dons squad to enjoy the excitement that comes at this stage of the season, as long as they keep a control of those emotions.

Tisdale’s men enter the final seven games of the campaign inside the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League Two, three points clear of fourth-placed Mansfield Town.

“It’s a type of excitement,” Tisdale said in his pre-match press conference when asked about whether or not he and his team could enjoy the thrill of a promotion push.

“We do this job because we enjoy it. It is exciting but it’s stressful too. I tend to enjoy my job the most at five to five when we’ve just won!

“We’re desperate to do well but we’ve got to control that emotion. We’ve got to keep a clear head and make good decisions because ultimately it’s about executing.”

He continued: “With seven games to go, all our focus is on those seven games. All that matters now is where we finish in six weeks time. We’re in a great position and we’ve got to try and stay there.”

The Dons travel to Forest Green Rovers at the weekend, looking to secure another valuable away victory - one which would maintain their place in the automatic promotion places, if not improve it.

In his pre-match press conference, Tisdale had high praise for Saturday’s opponents, labelling them as one of the standout sides in Sky Bet League Two.

“They play a very good brand of football and they are one of the standout possession teams in the league,” he commented.

“I’ve watched them play a couple of times and we’ve obviously played against them ourselves. They are a good football side and they will be a real challenge to any team over the next seven games.”
