Tis: Dons can’t afford complacency

1 March 2019

Paul Tisdale knows his MK Dons can’t afford to allow complacency to set in after their recent upturn in form.

Tisdale’s men are riding a three-game winning streak which has seen them climb back from below the play-off places to just two points adrift of the automatic promotion spots in Sky Bet League Two.

They welcome Crawley Town to Stadium MK on Saturday and could move into the top three with a win, should results go in their favour elsewhere. Tisdale, therefore, has urged his players to keep their feet firmly on the pedal.

“Most of how we prepare for any game is about mindset,” he said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon.

“It’s very easy to talk about tactics, but it’s important to start, first of all, with the correct mindset.

“Okay, we’ve just won three games on the bounce but we have to be very careful that we don’t take anything for granted.

“Looking at our opponents, Crawley, they have gone to the three teams above us and have come very close to getting a result against all three - only a late Mansfield goal prevented that.

“They’ve done very well against the top three teams so that is a warning to us.”

MK Dons enjoyed one of their standout results of the campaign in the reverse fixture with Crawley Town, as a brace from Rhys Healey and further strikers from Kieran Agard and Chuks Aneke saw them record a 4-0 victory.

While, of course, hoping his team can replicate that performance on Saturday, the boss knows that what went before has no relevance on this weekend’s meeting.

“It’s not relevant,” he stated. “In League Two football, the style of teams changes so frequently. Having a couple of players missing can drastically affect the way a team plays, and teams can go through good spells and poor spells.

“Anything that’s happened, say, three weeks ago we are discounting! Of course, we’d love to replicate our performance from the last game but we’ve got to think about the now.”
