Battle for promotion spots, goals galore and Glovers fighting for their survival are among the topics of conversation...

mkdons.com details the storylines to follow heading into this weekend's Sky Bet League Two clash with Yeovil Town at Stadium MK...

Battle for promotion spots
MK Dons enter this weekend outside the top three in Sky Bet League Two but level on points with Mansfield Town, who occupy that third and final automatic promotion spot.

Paul Tisdale’s men temporarily moved into third place last weekend courtesy of their 1-1 draw with Stevenage but were knocked out by Mansfield on Monday evening after they recorded a similar result at home to Lincoln City.

The Stags hold a slight advantage on goal difference which is why the Dons are currently on the outside looking in but Tisdale & Co will hope to change that on Saturday.

Of course, they must ensure they take care of their own business against Yeovil Town first but eyes will surely turn to the other League Two scores at full-time.

Mansfield Town entertain Crewe Alexandra while Bury, who are currently four points clear of the Dons in second, travel to Grimsby Town.

Goals galore
Per tipclub, MK Dons have scored the second-most goals this calendar year with their total of 27 in 2019 ranked below only Sky Bet Championship leaders Norwich City (30), with Sky Bet League Two promotion rivals Bury sitting third on 26.

Paul Tisdale’s team have scored in each of their last 10 matches, netting twice or more on six occasions.

The majority of those goals have come courtesy of striking pair Chuks Aneke and Kieran Agard - one of the deadliest duos in the EFL with a combined 37 goals to their name in all competitions, 33 of those coming in the league.

Agard and Aneke are now third best seasonal-striking duo in the Club’s history, behind Izale McLeod and Clive Platt (42 in 2006/07) and Will Grigg and Benik Afobe (41 in 2014/15).

The latter took his goal tally for the campaign to 17 with his equaliser against Stevenage last weekend, which moved the 25-year-old above Clive Platt into sole possession of seventh in the Club’s all-time league goalscorer chart. Aneke is now five goals behind Sam Baldock, who is sixth.

Glovers fighting for their survival
Travelling to Milton Keynes on Saturday are a Yeovil Town outfit who have plenty to play for between now and the first weekend of May.

The Glovers are currently three points clear of the relegation zone with eight games left to play but have played one more game than 23rd-placed Macclesfield Town.

Tisdale & Co will have to be wary of a team eager for points and a team that has played its best football away from home this term. The Dorset club have won five road games in 2018/19 and have conceded just 25 times - better than 14 other sides in the division.

Recovering from Boro bout
Saturday’s draw with Stevenage didn’t come without a cost, as Paul Tisdale saw two of his starters limp off with injuries to add to his current list of absentees.

David Wheeler was forced off in the first half with a nasty facial injury while Baily Cargill rode a stretcher down the tunnel after landing awkwardly in the second.

Tisdale will, no doubt, be asked about the fitness of the pair when he meets with the media on Thursday afternoon and whether or not they will be sidelined alongside the likes of George Williams, Jordan Moore-Taylor and Joe Walsh.
