Simpson hoping Saturday’s point proves valuable

Striker reflects on the 1-1 draw with Stevenage...

19 March 2019

Robbie Simpson hopes Saturday’s point proves to be a valuable one come the end of the season.

MK Dons drew 1-1 with Stevenage at Stadium MK, in a game where they were forced to come from behind to salvage the result - Chuks Aneke scored the late equaliser for Paul Tisdale’s men after Ilias Chair's stunning opener for Boro.

Saturday’s point temporarily moved the Dons into the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League Two although Mansfield Town reclaimed third place on Monday with a draw of their own at home to Lincoln City.

The two sides are now tied on points with eight games to go, with the Stags boasting a slightly superior goal difference.

“I think we’re a little disappointed not to get all three points but a point is a point,” Simpson said after the clash with Stevenage.

“It may prove to be a valuable point, and we’ve got to make it just that. We’ve got to keep focusing on ourselves and keep pushing.”

While hopeful that the point proves crucial in May, that doesn’t mean Simpson & Co weren’t disappointed to take the full share of spoils last weekend.

“I thought we were unlucky not to win it,” the 34-year-old striker commented.

“[Stevenage] are a tough team to play against and they were well organised. It was tough out there but we kept going and kept battling, we dug in and got ourselves back in the game.

“I think back to Colchester [United] and Crewe [Alexandra] at home, and in neither game we managed to come back and pick up a point. We have today, and I thought we were unlucky to not have won the game.”
