Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Yeovil Town at Stadium MK, Club legend Dean Lewington has heaped praise upon Manager Paul Tisdale and his coaching staff.
Tisdale arrived at MK Dons in the Summer of 2018, with Assistant Manager Matt Oakley and First-Team Coach Mel Gwinnett also taking up coaching positions with the Dons.
The final piece to the coaching jigsaw was added a couple of weeks later with Danny Butterfield joining from Southampton.
It’s a quartet of staff that, Lewington says, are a perfect match for MK Dons, and a group that is popular in the dressing room.
“Tis has been great to be fair,” the skipper told the media ahead of Saturday’s encounter with Yeovil.
“He’s been brilliant for a lot of people – including myself – he’s exactly what we need. He’s the right man for the job and has surrounded himself with a very good coaching staff – they are all very popular amongst the boys.
“As a squad, they are all popular and that’s testament to a good manager because you can only keep 11 people happy. You can speak to anyone in the squad and they all appreciate the way he talks to them with honesty.
“As a captain, he’s been great. He’s very detailed as a person and he knows what he wants – it’s quite easy to take that onto the pitch – he’s been a pleasure to work with.”
Such is the coaching methods of Tisdale & Co, the Dons have been able to play a number of formations after suffering injuries in the last eight-weeks. Something Lewington noted, can only be viewed as a benefit.
“When all of the central defenders are fit, I think we’ve got about seven, but it’s ended up that we’ve had Jordan Houghton playing there recently.
“It’s been a really bad time for injuries, but there is nothing we can do about it. I think it shows the ability and adaptability of the squad, that we can pop people in, change formation and still pick up results.
He concluded, “It’s been unlucky, it certainly doesn’t help – but that’s football.”
