Season in review - September

A look back at the month of September 2018...

5 June 2019

mkdons.com takes a month-by-month look back at the promotion winning campaign, with the month of September the next to be reviewed.

RECAP
Having enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season, MK Dons entered the month of September second in the table, however, the second month of the season would prove a difficult one to navigate with the Dons picking up just four points from a possible 15.

September started with 1-1 draws against Swindon Town and Forest Green Rovers respectively, before a trip to Lincoln City ended in defeat after a late Jason Shackell goal gave The Imps all three points.

The more 1-1 draws followed the defeat, with both Yeovil Town and Tranmere Rovers earning a point each against the Dons.

The Dons also started their Checkatrade Trophy campaign as they picked up their first points of the competition against Peterborough United. The victory came via penalties, following what was an entertaining 3-3 draw.

There was also a return to Stadium MK for Dele Alli as Tottenham Hotspurs and Watford contested the Third Round of the Carabao Cup. Issac Success had put Watford ahead before Dele scored on his homecoming to level the scoring, shortly after, Erik Lamela added a second for Spurs. A late Etienne Capoue goal, however, sent the tie to penalties. Dele would score on the shootout as Spurs progressed 4-2 on penalties.
