Boss expects Dons to be competitive

Dons boss confident his side can be competitive this season in Sky Bet League One...

3 July 2019

Paul Tisdale isn’t setting public targets for his MK Dons side but is confident they can be a competitive Sky Bet League One outfit in 2019/20.

The Dons return to third tier football this upcoming season following their promotion from Sky Bet League Two - a level at which they’ve enjoyed six top 10 finishes.

While optimism builds ahead of the season opener against Bury on August 3rd, following a busy summer of recruitment, Tisdale isn’t going to be drawn on revealing the targets and expectations for his side.

“No [I don’t know what this side is capable of],” he said in his first pre-season press conference. "How does anyone know?

"There are 23 other teams with expectations and optimism. We have a fair idea of where we sit in the league but there are so many variables that come into play.

“I’ve had seasons before where I’ve had very high expectations and suddenly, after four or five injuries in the first month and expectations have changed.

“If we have a fair wind, and all things are equal, I think we have a very good chance of being competitive and then it’s down to us to have the wherewithal to see the opposition, see how the league is taking shape and then be able to adapt and become more effective.”
