Following MK Dons’ 1-0 win over Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday night, Dean Lewington insists Paul Tisdale’s side are in a good place heading into the upcoming campaign.
Following the victory at Vauxhall Road, Lewington noted he feels the squad has the correct balance between youth and experience.
“There’s a good blend of younger players and older boys in the squad,” Lewington told the local media. “There is a good feel about the place and healthy competition is always good.
“Everyone has come back fit and looking well. We’ve improved the squad and things are a bit more even – there are two players for every position.”
Lewington also looked ahead to Friday’s clash with Northampton Town at the PTS Academy Stadium.
“We’ve got an exciting game against Northampton which will be a good test – then we’ll be ready to go.
“I think it helps playing teams at a similar level, because Northampton will want to go toe-to-toe with us, rather than having a team that will see us on the ball and drop.
“It's useful to have games where you have a lot of possession, and games where you are going to and fro, and I think Friday will be one of those.”
