Lee Nicholls knows he must impress this pre-season in order to earn a place in the starting line-up for the trip to Bury on August 3rd.
Nicholls kept 15 clean sheets in 43 appearances for MK Dons during the 2018/19 promotion campaign but the Liverpudlian knows that fellow stopper Stuart Moore is hot on his heels and acknowledges that there is a battle to begin the year between the sticks.
“We’ve both been told we’re on a level playing field and we’ve got to fight for the shirt,” Nicholls said when he met with the media earlier this week.
“It’s not about setting individual targets because, at this moment time, I’m just looking to get the shirt. I know the shirt is up for grabs.
“Stu has come back in and he’s looking sharp. It’s going to be a good battle between us two. I love Stu and I want him to do well so if he gets the nod, then I’ll be happy for him.
“Whatever choice Tis makes will be the right one for the team.”
The goalkeeper union added another member earlier this week with the signing of Laurie Walker on a free transfer and Nicholls is pleased to have Walker, who he has known since arriving at Stadium MK in summer 2017, on board.
“I am made up for him,” he said. “I’ve known Laurie ever since I first signed here and I’ve never met someone from non-league who has worked as hard as Laurie to get back into the EFL. I couldn’t be happier for him.”
