Baily Cargill took on the role of supporter at the end of last season and while the defender enjoyed cheering his teammates on to promotion, he is much happier being back on the pitch.
Cargill saw an impressive first season at Stadium MK cut short in March due to an ankle injury which forced him to watch on as the Dons secured promotion to Sky Bet League One.
The 24-year-old rehabbed the injury throughout the summer and finally made his return to action in the pre-season friendly with Hemel Hempstead Town - four months after limping off against Stevenage at Stadium MK.
“It was really nice,” Cargill told iFollow MK Dons after the friendly at Vauxhall Road. “It has been a long time and it has been frustrating so to finally be back out there and putting the kit on was nice.
“It was such a relief. It’s been so nice to just be back out with the lads in training. You feel a part of it again. Coming back makes all the hard work in the off-season and coming in over the summer worthwhile.”
He continued: “It was a tough four months for me. We were MK Dons fans last season but, as good as it was to watch, I would have loved to have been a part of it.
“Who knows what this season might bring – hopefully we can create something special like we did last year and I can be a part of it.”
Cargill topped up his minutes in Friday’s friendly at Northampton Town and while the centre-back is eager to be involved at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, he knows he must take things slowly in order to fully recover.
“It was nice to get the first minutes under my belt and forget about my injury. I was blowing! I've put in a lot of hard work but I'm still a bit off the rest of the lads who put in 80 minutes.
There is still another week before the season starts so I just need to get some minutes and get as fit as I can be but I don't want to rush back and make my ankle sore again - I want it put to bed so I can crack on and get on with the season.”
