Martin looking forward to working with Tis

Scotland international excited to begin life at Stadium MK...

23 January 2019

Russell Martin has played over 500 professional games for five different clubs and has represented his country on 29 different occasions. The defender is now relishing his next challenge at Stadium MK.

Martin put pen-to-paper on a permanent move to MK Dons last week, with the facilities, and, in particular, manager Paul Tisdale, playing a major part in his move.

The 33-year-old was an unused substitute in Saturday’s defeat against Crewe Alexandra, meaning he could make his debut against Grimsby this weekend.

It’s safe to say, while Martin will remain patient for his chance to impress, he’s eager to take to the field.

“I’m excited to get started now,” the Defender told iFollow MK Dons. “I want to get back playing and enjoying my football. I’ve got a really good feeling about MK Dons already.

“If I have to be patient then that’s fine – I’m desperate to get started and hopefully we can all enjoy a successful season together.

“To be at a football club with facilities like this and with what Tis is building here - I was really keen to be part of it - I’m really glad that I’ve signed.

“I really liked what I heard and wanted to work with him.”

Martin has played a part in four promotions during his career, and hopes he can inject some experience into the Stadium MK dressing room.

“Some players go through their whole careers without having a promotion, I’ve been really fortunate to be part of a few.

“I want to be part of more success and be part of a team that’s striving to get promoted and to play a part in that is special. I think if you haven’t been involved in it - it’s something you should desperately want.

“Luckily, I’ve had a few and I hope that experience will help a few of the lads at the later end of the season when things get serious.”

Russell Martin and MK Dons will look to get back on track this Saturday when they take on Grimsby Town at Blundell Park.

Tickets are priced at £19 adults and £12 seniors/students/young adults, £7 unaccompanied juniors (12-14 only) and £5 accompanied juniors, if bought in advance of matchday from MK Dons. Official Away Travel is available to book, with coach spaces priced at £23 Season Ticket holders/members and £24 all other supporters. Coaches will depart Stadium MK at 10am.
