Osman Sow netted his first goal of the season in the New Year’s Day victory over Cambridge United - a goal Alex Gilbey says was more than deserved.
Having been teammates for the best part of 18-months, Gilbey and Sow have struck up a bond both on the pitch and in the dressing room.
The Swedish striker has suffered somewhat of a stop-start season due to injury – but nothing pleased Alex Gilbey more than seeing the 28-year-old find the back of the net last time out.
“Osman has worked so hard,” the midfielder told the media in Thursday’s press conference.
“He’s had ups and downs, but to see him out there scoring goals is massive. He obviously scored against Cambridge, then for the Under-23s on Monday – that’s big for him – long may it continue.
“I built a great relationship with Osman, we worked hard together, for him to keep getting knock backs was upsetting to see considering how good he is.
“Now, he’s feeling the best he’s felt for years – I know he’ll score goals for us.”
Gilbey concluded, “The physios have a plan in place for him, if we can keep him fit and firing – we’ve got a very good striker on our hands.”
