Tis praises Dons’ ability to adapt

19 February 2019

MK Dons will be hoping they’ve banished some of their ghosts from earlier in the season by seeing out their victories at Newport County and Carlisle United last week.

This term, the Dons have seen a number of points slip away from winning positions away from home but twice this week, Paul Tisdale’s men have been able to hold on their leads and secure back-to-back Sky Bet League Two successes.

Boss Tisdale, whose side secured successive away wins for the first time since October, believes it was the squad’s ability to adapt their style which helped them see out the victories at Newport County and Carlisle United.

“In both games, we’ve adapted our play in order to get those wins,” Tisdale said in his post-match press conference on Saturday, following the 3-2 triumph at Brunton Park.

“We have been able to change the way we play during a game which, up until recently, we haven’t done. Previously, we’ve gone one or two goals up away from home, and just kept playing the same way. We’re developing in that aspect.”

Three men who played a crucial role in the Dons’ success last week are the midfield trio of Alex Gilbey, Conor McGrandles and Ousseynou Cisse. Tisdale spoke highly of all three when asked on Saturday.

"Alex, Conor and Ouss - that midfield three - did really well,” he said.

“It’s about playing a style that fits the players we have and gets the best out of them. Alex is beginning to build his game after that lay-off last season, and we’re now finding a groove for him which gets the best out of him.

“I thought, equally, Conor McGrandles was just as outstanding in a different way.”

Tisdale added: “There’s competition for places right across that team and with Jordan Moore-Taylor hopefully back soon, hopefully, we can mount a real push in the last two months of our season.”
