Tis: County can’t be underestimated

MK Dons boss fully respectful of this weekend's opponents...

22 February 2019

Paul Tisdale is not underestimating Saturday’s opponents Newport County, despite his side picking up three points at Rodney Parade less than a fortnight ago.

MK Dons beat the Exiles 1-0 in South Wales on February 12, with Chuks Aneke scoring an 88th-minute winner for Paul Tisdale's men.

They followed up that success with a 3-2 victory over Carlisle United and now welcome the Exiles to Milton Keynes this weekend, and while hoping his side can secure a league double over Newport, the Dons boss is wary of his opponent’s talents.

“We cannot underestimate Newport,” Tisdale said in his pre-match press conference. "They got a really good result in the week, so I don't want to take anything for granted.

“They play a particular way, they're hard to beat, and they play some really good attacking football at times.”

In his bid to lead the Dons to a third successive Sky Bet League Two win, Tisdale looks set to be without the services of George Williams and Jordan Moore-Taylor once again but the manager is hopeful of having everybody else available for selection.

“A week is a long time in football, and we're still a long way before the game, but hopefully we'll have the same squad,” Tisdale said on Thursday.

“There will be no return for George Williams or Jordan Moore-Taylor but the squad is in a good place.”

One player ready if called upon is defender Mathieu Baudry, who hasn’t featured since the 6-0 victory over Cambridge United at the start of January.

Tisdale confirmed to the media that his experienced centre-back is fit and available if selected.

“He has been available recently. Ultimately, it's about how the team is performing. He hasn't been out of the side for the last month because he's not ready to play, he played a couple of games a few weeks ago and he’s ready.

“I'm looking it as a positive that I've got a very good, experienced player who is ready and able to come in when needed.”
