MK Dons were back in Central Development League action on Tuesday afternoon and were 3-0 winners over their Luton Town counterparts.
A Dylan Asonganyi brace and a late third from Ouss Cisse ensured MK Dons Under-23s picked up all three points.
With the first-team coaching staff in attendance, a number of senior professionals were handed minutes.
Stuart Moore donned the gloves between the sticks, while Mathieu Baudry, Mitch Hancox and Callum Brittain made up part of the defence.
Further forward, Conor McGrandles and Ousseynou Cisse partnered each other in central midfield with Lawson D’Ath lining up behind Dylan Asonganyi and Stephen Walker.
Elsewhere, David Kasumu and Finn Tapp completed the Starting XI.
Edu Rubio’s side almost had the perfect start, Hancox came within inches of giving his side the lead just a minute after kick-off – Baudry’s cross was just over his head.
Moore was called into action for the first time just three minutes into the game, and showed he was ready for action. After a well-worked move Moore denied Luton, not once, but twice from point-blank range.
Moore then claimed well under pressure from a dangerous Luton Town corner.
Cisse then hit the post with seven minutes on the clock and it came about after a good spell of possession from the Dons. It started with D’Ath driving MK Dons over the half-way line and towards the Luton Town goal, his perfectly weighted pass found McGrandles who cut back onto his right good before picking out D’Ath once again. The midfielder cleverly played the ball into the path of Cisse who hit the post.
Asonganyi was the next man in a Dons shirt to try his luck, D’Ath found the run of the striker before the Luton keeper reacted well to smoother as Asonganyi’s feet.
Half-an-hour into the clash, MK Dons had committed men forward, with Luton hitting them on the counter-attack. Luton’s striker drove his side 60-yards up the pitch and looked to pull the trigger on goal, however, Cisse had tracked the striker all the way back and was there to deny him at the last second.
His tackle then set the Dons on a counter of their own with Brittain leading the attack down the right-wing. His cross was just behind D’Ath who saw his speculative overhead kick end over the bar.
Brittain once again was involved in the Dons attack, his cross found the run of Walker who headed narrowly over.
The second-half got underway with MK Dons making no changes at the break, and it was Rubio’s side who looked brighter after the break.
Kasumu won possession for his side in the final third, and after a clever one-two with D’Ath, he floated a cross that was met by Asonganyi - Luton’s keeper claimed well.
McGrandles once again found himself unmarked in the middle of the pitch, he floated a cross towards Hancox, who had spun off his marker. The defender took the ball perfectly in his path but the offside flag was raised.
The Dons didn’t have to wait long for their breakthrough though with Walker playing a key role in the goal. The striker shrugged off a couple of defenders as he made his way into the box, although he was tackled, the ball fell to Asonganyi who converted from close range just five minutes into the second half. 0-1.
The Dons continued their dominant spell and could’ve had a second just minutes after their first. McGrandles floated a pass over the top, into the path of Walker who tried to chip the Luton keeper, however, he just got a hand to the attempt.
Shortly after the hour-mark, Walker had an effort cleared off the line, and in all honesty, the move the created it probably deserved a goal. The Dons played from front-to-back playing in tight areas under pressure. Hancox was eventually found on the left win, and having fainted his shot, the left-back picked out Walker who was denied on the goal-line.
On 70-minutes it was Tapp’s turn to go close with the defender hitting the crossbar. The chance came about after a short corner found McGrandles on the edge of the box. His clever reverse pass found Hancox who picked out Tapp – his header hit the underside of the bar before being cleared.
MK Dons were then presented with the chance to get a deserved second-half after Asonganyi was fouled inside the box by the Luton keeper. The striker stepped up to the penalty spot and sent the keeper the wrong way. 2-0.
Minutes before the end Cisse made it three as he converted home from close range. 3-0.
