Dean Lewington has called on MK Dons to reverse their ‘terrible’ run of form and re-discover their rhythm from earlier in the season.
Lewington & Co were beaten 3-1 by Exeter City last Saturday - a result which leaves them four points adrift of the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League Two.
With 16 games left to play, the Dons have still have ample time to turn their fortunes around but Lewington knows that change in momentum must come sooner rather than later.
“It has been terrible,” Lewington said when asked about the recent run of form.
“It’s been frustrating at times because while the results were poor, games like Northampton and Bury were games where we should have got three points. If we had picked up results there, it would have looked better. Then, when you have bad days like Saturday, it costs you.
“We’ve lost our rhythm and it's hard to explain why. We’ve got to change that if we want to get out of League 2.”
Reflecting on Saturday’s defeat, Lewington didn’t hold back, saying: “We were nowhere near it to be honest.
“That first half was verging on embarrassing. I can't use the words I want to - it was nowhere near good enough. We played into the traps we were told they would set, and did all the things we were told not to do. We were warned and still did it.
“In the second half, we played with some resemblance to normally would and we got back into it but an error let them back in and it was a hard challenge to get back into it after that.”
