Now is the time for MK Dons to accept points over performances, says Jordan Houghton.

The midfielder came off the bench against Newport County to help the Dons secure a third successive Sky Bet League Two victory - a result which has them sitting just two points adrift of the automatic promotion places heading into the final 12 games of the campaign.

Paul Tisdale’s men weren’t at their scintillating best on Saturday but Houghton knows it’s the results that matter at this stage of the season.

“This time of year you need to be picking up points,” the 23-year-old told iFollow MK Dons after the 2-0 at Stadium MK.

“I think that’s where we went wrong over Christmas. We were concentrating too much on how we were playing, not grinding out wins and points.

“I think we've turned a corner in that aspect. We weren't amazing today but we played well in parts and the main thing is coming away with a 2-0 win.”

MK Dons will look to make it four triumphs in a row when they take on Crawley Town this weekend at Stadium MK.

Maintaining that good run of form on Saturday would be the perfect way to kick-start the two-month countdown to the end of the season, according to Houghton.

He said: “That’s three in a row now, off the back of two really good away performances. [On Saturday] there's another home game as well so hopefully it's the start of a run and we can kick on for the rest of the season.

“We've got to put a run together for the back end of the season, we have to accelerate and look forward. We've got 12 more games to go, so we need a run to mount a serious challenge for the automatics.”
