Hesketh: Result takes the shine off my goal

11 February 2019

Jake Hesketh opened his MK Dons account in stunning fashion last Saturday, however, it’s a goal he was unable to enjoy given the result.

The Southampton-loanee made his Stadium MK bow and certainly made an impression, which culminated with his wonderful goal on the hour mark.

However, Keshi Anderson put Swindon back ahead just a minute later, before Michael Doughty secured all three points for Richie Wellens side.

“The result takes the shine off my goal.” The forward told the media following the full-time whistle.

“It’s nowhere near as enjoyable – it’s just one of them things.

“I just want to do the best I can for the team, I’m trying to contribute to helping the Club reach their goals.”

Kieran Agard’s late strike Paul Tisdale’s side a glimmer of hope, however, Swindon defended resolutely to see out the game.

“The last 15-minutes, we put a lot of pressure on their box and got that second goal. After that, we had a couple of near misses – after that - it just wasn’t meant to be.

“Their second goal takes the momentum away from us – to concede so soon after wasn’t ideal. I felt we bounced back and got straight back on the front foot.”

Next up for MK Dons is a trip to Newport County, a win at Rodney Parade would see the Dons climb up to fourth in the Sky Bet League Two table.

“Obviously, Newport is our game in hand. We need to get points on the board - we’ll be going there looking to win.

“I think every side will go through bad patches, but the group we’ve got are confident. We’ve shown all season that we are good enough to be up there so I’m sure it’ll turn very soon and we will be back fighting for promotion.”
