Gilbey: I’m enjoying my football

Midfielder loving life at Stadium MK…

19 February 2019

It’s safe to say that Alex Gilbey is a fan favourite at Stadium MK, with the midfielder replicating the emotions, noting just how much he’s enjoying his football.

The 24-year-old is enjoying a rich vein of form and has played an instrumental role in helping MK Dons record back-to-back wins.

Gilbey registered his fifth assist of the season in the 3-2 win over Carlisle, rounding off an eye-catching passing move as he cut back into the path of Kieran Agard when he could’ve so easily gone for goal himself.

“I’m really loving my football,” the midfielder told the media following Saturday’s win at Brunton Park.

“I’m really happy at the Club and long may it continue. Tis has come in and been brilliant with me and helped me improve my game – that’s what I need.”

The win in Cumbria ensured the travelling Dons faithful saw their side pick up six points in a week that saw them travel over 770 miles.

“Newport was a big turning point for us, we were brilliant on Tuesday and come to Carlisle and shown our resilience and scored three goals to go with it – we are over the moon with it.

“Carlisle are a really good side. When we beat them earlier in the season they put together an impressive run of results. This is a tough place to come, but today we were outstanding - long may it continue.

“Against Newport, we had to play the conditions, the pitch wasn’t the best and we coped with it really well - we were brave and resilient in our defending.

“Against Carlisle, the pitch was really nice, we got the ball down – I felt we stuck to our game plan and played really well.”

Gilbey also reserved special praise for loanee Jake Hesketh – who scored his second goal in as many starts last weekend.

“Jake is a lovely kid and a warrior! You can see he puts himself about and makes clever runs and has the quality to finish chances as well – he’s outstanding.

"He’s a great asset to the Club and hopefully, he can score more goals like that.”
