Agard: Hard work pays off

1 February 2019

Kieran Agard’s second-half penalty against Oldham Athletic took his tally for the season to 14 goals but the striker insists winning games matters more than individual accolades.

Agard’s tally in Sky Bet League Two sits at 12 – the exact same number as fellow forward Chuks Aneke.

However, Agard admits that come the end of the season, he won’t mind who picks up the ‘Top Goalscorer’ award, as long as the team are winning games.

“As long as both Chuks and I are scoring goals and things are going well for the team - I don’t mind who finishes top goal scorer.

“If we can both continue to knock them away and help the team win games that’s all that matters.”

Agard credited his success and the performance on the pitch to the hard work of both the squad and the coaching staff.

“It goes down to the hard work of all the staff and players and everyone cooperating and being on the same page.

“Sometimes you go through rough periods, but you’ve got to keep working hard, keep training, keep doing what we are told to do and keep plugging away.

“Thankfully, we got the win on Tuesday night, we’ll prepare in the same way and go again on Saturday.”
