Poole: Oxford win what we deserved

Defender reflects on Stadium MK success...

17 December 2019

Regan Poole felt three points was nothing less than MK Dons deserved for their display in last weekend’s Sky Bet League One clash with Oxford United.

Poole & Co put an end to a 12-game winless run in league football courtesy of a 1-0 victory over the Yellows at Stadium MK – Joe Mason grabbing the decisive goal just before the hour mark.

Not only was it the Dons’ first league success since mid-September, it was also their maiden win under manager Russell Martin triumph and Poole felt it was a warranted result.

“We thoroughly deserved it,” the Welshman said in his post-match press conference.

“We played really well last week and deserved the three points. This week, we've improved on that and we've finally got the win that was needed. Despite the run, we all believed we were going to win today. We took a lot of confidence from last week.

“We started brightly and we had the better chances throughout the game. To then dig in for the last 20 minutes, shows we can do that side of the game as well. It was a real team-performance.”

He added: “The win has been a long time coming, and it's time to build on it now. [The winless run] is out of the way now and it’s time for us to put a run together and move forwards.”

Poole also had praise for the match-winner, Mason, for his clinical finishing.

“If you give him one chance, he puts it away,” Poole said of his teammate. “He didn't have many chances, a few shots from outside the box in the first half, but as soon as he gets that chance - and it wasn't even a chance to be honest - he stuck it in the top corner.”
