Gilbey looking for consistency

31 December 2019

Alex Gilbey knows that in order for MK Dons to push out of the relegation zone they need to find some consistency.

The Dons signed off 2019 in style as they overcame promotion-chasing Portsmouth 3-1 at Stadium MK – with Gilbey sealing the result with a delicate chip as the game drew to its conclusion.

The win means the Dons have lost just one of their last six games in all competitions – a run of form Gilbey is eager to maintain heading into the New Year.

“We need to build on this result against Bristol Rovers,’ the midfielder told iFollow MK Dons following the success at Stadium MK. “We can’t win a game and then lose a game – we need to be consistent and kick on from here.

“I think the win and performance was exactly what we needed after the Boxing Day game. I think everyone was disappointed with the performance, and I think we were nowhere near what we are capable of.

“Russ has said we are excited to play at home, and it shows, we’ve got really good home form at the moment – long may it continue.”

The 25-year-old also added that the Dons can take a lot of positives from the win over Portsmouth, while also showing his appreciation to the MK Dons faithful for sticking with the team.

“There are a lot of positives to take from this week, the manager has been making sure everyone is positive around the place, now we’re playing really well.

“We’ve had one defeat in five, but we need to keep pushing – the sky is the limit if we carry on playing the way we are.

“Fair play to the fans for sticking with us! Like I’ve said before you’ve got to be brave to keep following a team that keeps losing. Now, we’re starting to pay back their support – we’ll keep trying to win games for them.”
