Gilbey: Let's use high spirits to turn fortunes

Midfielder feeling confident after improved displays...

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

Alex Gilbey says spirits are high at Stadium MK following the recent improvement in performances but knows that those displays must turn into points – and quickly.

The Dons have arguably played some of their best football in the last three games but only have one point to show for it, as well as a victory in the Leasing.com Trophy.

Gilbey knows that the team must start putting points on the board in order to climb the Sky Bet League One table and hopes the raise of morale will help them to accomplish that.

“There have been a lot of changes,” Gilbey said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Oxford United at Stadium MK.

“Russ has brought a fun factor and everyone is loving coming to training and trying to improve. We're playing a style of football that suits us, which everyone is buying into it.

“Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be done. Just because we've got a point, it doesn’t mean everything has been forgotten about. We need to start winning games but hopefully we still start doing that and start getting up the table.”

Boss Martin revealed in his post-match interview at Doncaster Rovers that he has been asking Gilbey to do less on the pitch in a bid to get more out of the all-action midfielder. The 25-year-old believes it’s something that will benefit his game.

“When Russ first took the job, he said he loved how enthusiastic I was but told me to stop doing everyone else's job because, in the end, I'd be knackered.

“I’ve taken it on board and it's obviously working, because I've scored a couple of goals. I've just got to keep listening to Luke [Williams] and Russ and I think it will see me continue to improve.”
