Dons hopeful of double injury boost

Russell Martin provides update on Jordan Moore-Taylor, Sam Nombe and Rhys Healey...

6 December 2019

Russell Martin is hoping for a double injury boost in the coming games with the impending returns of Jordan Moore-Taylor and Sam Nombe.

Moore-Taylor hasn’t featured since the Sky Bet League One clash with Bolton Wanderers last month while Nombe has been out for over nine weeks with the knee injury he suffered back in September.

There is a chance, though, that both could return this weekend for the trip to Doncaster Rovers, although Martin does admit that Saturday may come a little too soon for Nombe.

“Whether or not they’ll be in the squad, I don’t know yet, but they’re fit and available which is good news,” Martin said in his pre-match press conference.

“They haven’t played for a while – Jordan has only played one or twice in a long while and Sam has been out for a long time.”

On Nombe, Martin added: “It’s been good to have him back in training. He comes with a great attitude and brings a freshness to the group. He wants to win and he wants to work hard.

“He’s not going to be ready straight away because he has been out for a while. We have to be careful with him, which is why Saturday may come a bit too early but it’s great to have him back amongst it.”

There was further positive team news in the form of Rhys Healey, who Martin says is edging closer to a return from the hamstring injury he suffered away at Blackpool in September.

“Hopefully another week or two, in terms of training properly,” the Dons boss said when asked how far away his striker was from returning.

“He’s working extremely hard. He’s not trained fully yet but he’s looking good in the bits and bobs he is doing. He’s certainly looked stronger in the last week.

“It will be good to get back. We’ll look to get him involved in a reserve game soon – Tuesday may come too soon but after that, we’ll look to get him a game.

“It’s really important not to rush it. We want him back for the rest of the season and don’t want to bring him back quickly and lose him again.”
